The Bairn's Hoose

Children 1st Scotland’s National Children’s charity created Scotland’s first Bairns Hoose in the West of Scotland.

Based on the international model of Barnahus, the Bairns Hoose is a carefully designed, trauma sensitive space where children who are victims or witnesses of crime or abuse can access all the services they need under one roof.

Source were invited by Lee Boyd Architects and Designers and Children First to assist them curate a package of furniture that would provide comfort, calm and a sense of security akin to a safe family home. The scale of the property is relatively small however the supply chain was kept very broad to ensure the correct pieces were selected based on the context, vision and values of the design. The fabrics, finishes and details were key to ensure the level of child safety and complying to all standards whilst providing a sense of comfort, homeliness and safety. After a considerable period of consultation a bespoke package of furniture, lighting and rugs were selected from 22 manufacturers.
